Porcelain

The two passions that have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember are creativity and animals. I am at my best with busy hands and the direct physical interaction of hand building with clay is the perfect medium to express myself creatively.  With my work I strive to combine my natural tendencies towards simple graphic forms and the classic formality of traditional styles with the inviting whimsey and imperfect beauty of animals and the natural world

I hand build using porcelain to create whimsical animal sculptures that often skirt the line between reality and fantasy. Working with a combination of coils and pinching I create fcreatures that are then embellished and accentuated and decorated with different kinds of underglaze . My work is fired midrange in an oxidation environment.

I am also very interested in the narrative between my creations and their audience. I am drawn to the idea that my customers can use my creations as part of their own artistic visions.  I enjoy the thought of them setting up decorative tableaux with the items I’ve created that highlights both of their personalities. My work should be engaged and interacted with not just left on a pedestal..
